Since 2004, a crucial part of Faculty Academy’s success has been the speakers and workshop leaders invited to present and share at the event. These guests have helped faculty and staff to deepen our conversations, enlarge and strengthen our strategic vision, and both imagine and adopt new techniques for successful innovation in teaching and learning technologies.

2008 Keynote Speaker

On the the morning of Wednesday, May 14, Dr. Janet Murray will be delivering the keynote address, “Inventing the Medium: Learning and Symbolic Expression from Knucklebones and Senet to Second Life and Spore.”

2008 Visiting Workshop Leaders and Presenters

Gene Roche is Director of Academic Information Systems and Clinical Associate Professor of Education at the College of William and Mary. At his blog, Techfoot, Dr. Roche shares his views on the role of information technology in higher education:

Dr. Roche will be delivering a plenary presentation at 1:30 on Wednesday, May 14th, titled “Integration, Technology, and the Meaning of Life.” He’ll also be leading a plenary workshop on Tuesday, May 13th at 4:00 on “Managing your Personal Information Universe.”

Barbara Sawhill is Director of the Cooper International Learning Center, Oberlin College and President of the International Association of Language Learning Technology. She regularly shares her impressions of the role of technology in language learning at Language Lab Unleashed:

Ms. Sawhill will be delivering a plenary presentation on Tuesday, May 13th at 10:00 on “Why Johnny Can’t Learn Spanish: How the Academy is Undermining Our Efforts to Teach Language, and What Can be Done About It.” She’ll also be leading a workshop on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 on “Teaching Language and Culture with Technology: What Do We Need and Do We “Git-R-Dun?
